The World Judo Championship taking place in Baku continues with a successful performance from the Azerbaijani team.

According to Offsideplus.az, Zelim Tçkayev, competing in the 81 kg weight category, has secured his place in the final by overcoming all his opponents. In the semi-final, he defeated Kazakh athlete Abilaykhan Zubanazar. In the decisive match for the gold medal, Tçkayev will face Georgian representative Tato Grigalashvili.

Abilaykhan Zubanazar, who lost to Zelim, will clarify his relationship with another member of our team, Ömer Rəcəbli, in the bronze medal match.

Meanwhile, the other Azerbaijani judoka in the same weight category, Vusal Qələndərzadə, has had an unsuccessful end to his world championship campaign. He was eliminated in the round of 16 after losing to Abilaykhan Zubanazar on penalty points.

The championship, held at the National Gymnastics Arena, will continue until October 11.

It is worth noting that earlier, Azerbaijani judokas Ahmad Yusifov (60 kg) celebrated a championship victory, while Rəşid Məmmədəliyev (73 kg) secured a bronze medal.
